Asian Dan Exclusive Van She Tech Minimix + Interview

I found out through twitter that, Van She, one of my favorite Modular Records bands follows the b-log 🙂 Van She Tech was kind enough to put together an exclusive 26 min minimix for Asian Dan that showcases their ability to move hearts, minds, and feet. Nick also answered a few questions about Van She’s musical history, revealing that Hall & Oates’ “Private Eyes” is one of their favorite dance tracks. Anyone who says that understands music the true meaning of music in my mind.

Asian Dan Interview: 25 Hours A Day

My intern Sam was able to get in touch with 25 Hours A Day for a brief Q&A/Interview. Check out what 25 Hours A Day has in store, including another remix for Phoenix’s next single, “Fences”.

Asian Dan Interview: 25 Hours A Day

Who is 25 Hours A Day?

25had is me, Pierrick Devin. Some people said that my tracks sounds
like a band but it s a solo project. I did remixes mostly, so far…

How could you describe your music?

It s a kind of mix between indie rock and dance music.

What are your main musical influences?

When I was 15 I was really into “French touch” bands like Daft punk, Cassius etc… And at the same time I was listenning to pop bands like Supergrass or rock bands like Sonic Youth, weezer and Pavement. These days I really love all the DFA or DC recordings releases, I’m also listening to classics bands like Talking Heads, Liquid Liquid or
Suicide. I like some garage bands too : Jay Reatard is great, the Black Lips etc…

How would you describe your relationship with Phoenix?

We are friends. I first meet them when I was working as an assistant in plus xxx studios. We spend a month working on the mixing of their 3rd album “Its never been like that”, in fact I was patching some
audio gear, line up the tape recorder and making coffee and we became closer. They shared many mp3 with me, I discovered a lot of music thanks to them. One day during this period, they listened to a track I was working on and they really liked it so they asked me to remix their track “Long Distance Call”. I was really excited and nervous at the time. It was my first remix.

Asian Dan Interview: Allure

Allure was kind of enough to answer a few questions to give readers a peak into his musical mind. He is quite the classy young gentlemen who is trying to mix and merge the class and smoothness of 70s pop music and French culture with the modern electro sound that we all have come to love and enjoy.

Check out “Champagne” a track that reminds me of Breakbot especially because of that fantastic bass tone. Also the sound of the champagne popping and pouring out is a nice nod to Thomas Bangalter’s track, “Club Soda”.

I have in one hand all my Pop influences (David Bowie, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Prince, The Alessi Brothers, America, Phoenix, Queen, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder and many more…), and on the other hand my electro french touch influences, especially influenced by Daft Punk and Justice.

I think that my first musical memory is an audio tape of Michael Jackson’s “Bad”.

Asian Dan Presents Emil & Friends “Astronaut Ice Cream Mixtape”
Tracklist at the end of the interview.

Here is a new track by Emil & Friends that is an introspective and folky feel good tune. The guitar work at the end reminds me of John Frusciante.
“Fame and fortune don’t mean shit to me. 0o0o0 baby now…”

Emil & Friends – The Shrine

Asian Dan Interview: Emil & Friends

1.  Who is Emil & Friends?  How would you describe your music?

Emil & friends has been called everything from a band to a boyfriend/girlfriend duo to one guy with multiple personalities. At this point, and most likely until a tour, there will just be me doing what needs to be done. So I guess its more the multiple personalities… More specifically, I play the instruments, write, sing, record, produce, mix, design strange graphics and animations (All these done usually while wearing a costume of some sort). When I decided to release something I picked the Emil & Friends label because it sounded average, showed I wasn’t taking myself too seriously, and that I wanted to collaborate and start a band in the future, should it happen that way. I figured as long as I made the music good enough it would stay afloat. It could always change to a reference from some cult movie. That seems standard these days.

A description of the music? Its kind of like buffet style servings that vacillate between nylon/electro dream fountain pop and driven crunchy disco dirt while stopping to sample flavors of soul, punk, trip hop and whatever else slips by undetected.
