Warp’s own Clark crafted this DJ mix for BBC a few weeks ago. It is yet another great example of Warp’s quality of artists and what we all can look forward to from them and their top-notch roster. I love what Clark does to Dorian Concept’s “Trilingual Sex Experience”.
A slinky, dark and sexy new single from Metronomy with a blog-worthy music videos that will most likely be making its rounds on all the fancy/chic/in-the-know/hip design blogs of da interwebs. [Read more]
I have been listening to this just over a minute sampler of Bibio’s upcoming album “Mind Bokeh” for the past week and a half. I have probably listened to it about 50 times. I have tweeted and posted it on Facebook enough to declare it my album of 2011 even though this is the only bit of the album I have heard. It is every element of Bibio turned up to 11 – from his amazing beat-making, his lo-fi found sound experiments, his beautiful jazz/classical guitar all mixed and blurred with his amazing grasp of Pop music.
Out March 28 in the US and April 4 worldwide on Warp Records.
Tame Imapala brought me one of my favorite records of 2010, “Innerspeaker” – a tastefully psychedelic collection of tunes that paid homage to the album format, a medium that is not as respected or properly executed as it was years before. Mr. Alkan swoops and transforms “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind” into a fuzzed out disco track. Who knew harmonized distorted guitars could be so satisfying on the dancefloor.
I got excited when I saw the latest Holy Ghost! single is entitled “Do It Again” thinking that it could be a disco cover of the Steely Dan track by the same name. Since Michael McDonald is making a guest appearance on the album I thought they were going all out with the Yacht Rock. Instead “Do It Again” is new wave disco track that reminds me of Tom Tom Club and The Talking Heads with Holy Ghost’s usual nostalgic disco flair.
The youngin’ Koreless works his introspective remix skills on LuckyMe’s Jacques Greene’s “The Look”. He transforms the track into a slow-jam RnB sounding song that float over very thought evoking chords. Expect more from this young producer this year.
The LA Boogiemaster, Dam-Funk remixes Nite Jewel – taking this indie synth dance girl and turning her into a disco boogie queen. Dam-Funk is a wizard that can work his funk magic on little white girls. Clubba-dub-dub y’all.
