Lunice – Out of Touch

Lunice is a 21 year old Montreal native producer on Glasgow’s LuckyMe Records. I witnessed him DJ last week in NYC at the LuckyMe showcase at 88 Palace and I must say he was one of the most entertaining and energetic DJs I have seen in quite a while. He dropped everything from Flying Lotus to Beyonce “Diva” and Gucci Mane and this gem of a track of his that samples Hall & Oates’ “Out Of Touch”. I am a Hall & Oates purist and believe that their music should not be remixed or sampled but this is the most tasteful uses of a Hall & Oates track I have heard.

Jamie XX – Far Nearer

Jamie xx is set to release a calypso infused single that would make James Blake, Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie and Burial proud. At first I thought the steel drums were kind of a novelty/cheesy thing to do on this track but after a few listens it is great. A perfect track to play at the end of a late night set. It is also quite exciting that this 12″ is coming out on Numbers Records.

Brian Eno – 2 Forms of Anger

This is the first track to be heard off of the highly anticipated Brian Eno release on Warp Records entitled ” Small Craft On A Milk Sea”. By the sounds of this track it sounds like it is the perfect label and venue for Brian Eno to be releasing a this music. It is a tribal cacophony that could only originate from a mind such as Mr. Eno. The feedbacking guitars sound like he is ripping the strings off of his guitar.

Asian Dan Presents Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd: Barbara Tucker “I Get Lifted” MAW Dub

Sponsored by Scion

A continuation of Todd Edwards’ stroll down memory lane, as he looks back at the important Sound Factory moments and tracks that shaped his music.

After Sole Fusion, Little Louie played MAW’s dub of Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted” with those wah-wah filtered organ chords running under Barbara Tucker’s vocals. That night I went home inspired. In two weeks I made four tracks, “Dancing For Heaven, Stronger, FOT, and most importantly “Saved My Life”.

Azari & III – Indigo

“Azari & Third” strike back with their latest release, “Indigo” out on Turbo Records now. A classic House filled release that satisfies my dance music needs. I’m a big fan of the haunting vocals. The A Capella on the release is a nice thing to throw around in DJ sets.

James Blake – I Only Know (What I Know Now)

James Blake’s “CMYK” is one of my favorite releases of the year. Before this year closes out he will drop another EP entitled “Klavierwerke” which I am sure will also join CMYK’s ranks. “I Only Know (What I Know Now)” is a track of the EP that is up there with Mount Kimbie’s “Maybes”, both tunes that slowly unfold in a very thoughtful and introspective way revealing music that is able to soothe the mind and soul. I always try to find a genre for James Blake/Mount Kimbie and Co, everyone says they are leading the whole Post-Dubstep scene but there music is a religious experience so I will call it “Gospel-step”. Amen!

Klavierwerke EP is out 9.27.2010 and out 10.4.2010 on vinyl onR&S Records

Asian Dan Presents Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd: Sole Fusion “Bass Tone”

Sponsored by Scion

Todd Edwards reminisces about another one of his favorite Sound Factory Bar x Master At Work memories. This is a track that definitely needs to be heard in the club.

I owe MAW for one my most note worthy tracks. It was a while since I had been to the Sound Factory Bar. I went, and heard some of the most inspiring tracks that I had heard in a while. One of them was Sole Fusion’s “Bass Tone. The drums crashing in that track!!!! Amazing! What an impact those drums had echoing in the club!
