I feel like Zongamin is the Mr. Oizo of Japan – weird, quirky, whacky productions with semi-cheesey samples that shouldn’t be cool but he makes it work. Acidkids enlist Zongamin to work his magic on their latest track “Mad Mahoney”. Love that slap bass.

I recently found this remix on Dubka’s myspace, a remix of We Are Standard’s “Last Time”. Dubka is so good at producing tracks that sound so 80s while not making them seem like a novelty thing. I particularly love how he transposes the vocals to sound like a woman. Also that synth guitar solo blows me away. Check out Dubka’s myspace to see what he is up to lately – currently he is producing Ali Love’s album, a synth pop odyssey that Giorgio Moroder would be proud of. Checkout “Smoke and Mirrors” here and “Diminishing Return” here.

Here is Dubka dropping some knowledge on how he achieved that crazy synth solo:

“The synth solo is just very fast programmed midi sent to the Commodore 64 synth I made. What makes it sound more guitar-like is the fact it’s going through an old Boss multi-effects box and I’m doing the pitch-bend live as it recording. The main sort of melodic theme is the same sound but it’s just played live.”

Y A L L, the Barcelona duo comprised of Nighty Max and Noise Up take a stab at remixing La Roux’s “Bulletproof” for her remix contest – fun and well put together remix, I love their kick sample – vote for it here if you like it.

Dim Mak Presents August 25, 2009, The Bloody Beetroots “Romborama” – a 20 track magnum opus crafted by Mr. Bob Rifo & Tommy Tea. An album that comes at you hard and spans numerous genres. An album that says fuck you to everyone. Check out this tune featuring a fellow Italian, Cecile – a dark and trippy tune that takes you on a journey through the Beetroots’ more contemplative and musical side while still retaining that split at the seams energy. I cannot wait. <3 u Bob & Tommy. [audio:http://diestruktur.com/asianmandan/music/July%202009/02Have%20Mercy%20On%20Us(ft.Cecile).mp3] The Bloody Beetroots - Have Mercy On Us (ft. Warp Records is my favorite label still around today that has proven itself as a label with longevity with the ability to find and foster amazing acts. From Aphex Twin, Jamie Lidell, Nightmares on Wax to Battles and Grizzly Bear – they are a label that understands great music and what it takes to allow these artists to grow and produce amazing music. I will definitely be at this show and am looking forward to some new music from Battles. This show is just a small part of the 3 day event in NYC celebrating Warp’s 20 year annivesary.
