Justice Live @ Koko – Electric Proms – DJ Set – 10.25.2008 – BBC 6 Broadcast
Cheers to Maxim Condor for hooking this up 🙂
(The last 30 mins are Coldcut’s live set)

Here is a latest recording of Justice’s DJ sets from Electric Proms this past weekend as they promote A Cross the Universe. Strictly old school house and filter disco. No Bangers!! Except for their own of course. They even drop Daft Punk’s Face to Face and Crescendolls. Check out an interview with them here on the BBC 6 The Queens show, here. Xavier explains that they are done with the live performances after playing over 150 live gigs and that they are DJing now with “a laptop and a few of their small machines”.

Tracklist after the jump.

Late of the Pier Invades America

Late Of The Pier are making their first US appearances next week in NYC as part of CMJ and in Philly. I shall be seeing them on the 24th with Soulwax and 2 Many DJ’s as part of the Pete Tong’s CMJ night which is quite an epic line up. Checkout these remixes of LOTP, I was expecting more from the Boys Noize remix, it is more of an edit. I love Breakbot and whatever he does so check out his remix of Bathroom Gurgle.

Checkout this candid chat between Late Of the Pier and Breakbot. Breakbot reveals that he use to make music back in the day with Xavier from Justice when they were classmates at graphic arts school.
“It didn’t really work out, I wanted to make smoky trip hop and he wanted to make gay house music.”- Breakbot

Justice Live in Rio: Live Setup

Will someone please get me a Lemur Pad? 🙂 Justice’s live setup has become quite elaborate, almost as cool as Daft Punk’s Moog-tastic setup. I am very excited about A Cross the Universe but I wonder what Justice has in store after. Was their Rio show really their last “live” show? Justice x Kanye collab on 808’s and Heartbreaks?

Hey Champ – Cold Dust Girl

Hey Champ are a Chicago band that are buddies with France’s Scenario Rock. They are an 80s tinged, 70s songwriting sounding band that are now Lupe approved. You may also remember them for their fantastic remix of Scenario Rock’s “Both Gotta Move On”. Maybe Lupe will sign them like Pharrell signed Chester French. Check out their new track “Cold Dust Girl”, catchy, synth pop goodness 🙂

The Ting Tings -Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix)

Wiley – Summertime (Crookers Remix)
Justice – Stress (Auto Remix)

“Born in the budding and booming electronic music scene of Toronto’s trendy Queen West district, Pudge and Russ have fused their love for making people move and music into the entity called Le Pants Optional. These dudes have DJ’d everywhere from big venues like CiRCA and the Drake to Amber in the posh Yorkville area, and they play everything and anything to get you moving from 80’s tunes to reworked house anthems, maybe you’ll even hear La Bamba to bring it down, to bring it right back up. Their love is electro and that is what you will most likely get when you see these high energy Dj’s drop their sets. Maybe you’ll even take your pants off.”

Soulwax’s Guardian Interview

So I had the pleasure of watching Part of The Weekend Never Dies and it totally reminded me why I love music. The Dewaele Brothers are just music lovers that rock out with their band Soulwax and spin their favourite records as 2 Many DJ’s, they are living my dream life 🙂 They do their own thing and everyone loves it.

So Me (designer for Ed Banger records): You have an encyclopaedic knowledge of music, but you’re equally interested in visual arts. Where does that come from?

David From our parents. Our dad, Zaki, was a radio and club DJ, but, like us, he was into many things. He writes poetry, he paints, and, as kids, we went to pretty much every Michelin-starred restaurant and museum. We were really fortunate.

Stephen We’re interested in anything that touches you. But visual things, like sleeve art, are important. Growing up, I had a photographic memory of all the record sleeves in our house……

Justice – Planisphère

Photo by I can be accident

Planisphère, Justice’s magnus opus that they created for the Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2009 fashion show. They polished this track up, added their signature reverbs, effects, chopped up edits etc. They even added a proggy wanking guitar solo. You can tell their love for The Fucking Champs is really making an impact on their music. There seems to be a return to their epic church disco sound circa Waters of Nazareth. Maybe Justice is on the way of becoming a full fledged electronic prog band? I wonder what is in store next.
Cheers, Buzz End Direkt
