Major Lazer & La Roux Present: LAZERPROOF

So apparently Major Lazer & La Roux banger collab broke the Mad Decent server. I guess everyone is desperate for some new summer party jams and this is exactly what this mixtape is, nothing more nothing less. Be sure to check out The Creators Project video piece on the genius and madness that is Diplo. He is just a dude that just gets it.

Connan Mockasin – It’s Choade My Dear

Connan Mockasin is Phantasy latest little muse/release, a freak-a-delic weirdo from New Zealand. I consider his album “Please Turn Me Into Snat” what the latest MGMT album should’ve been, instead of that mediocre watered down hippie jargon. And with acts like Connan and Tame Impala making quality psychedelic music I dunno why anyone would give the new MGMT a second listen. Connan Mockasin’s album is a fantastic way to spend to spend 36 minutes of your life so pick up the album here at Rough Trade.

Mystery Jets x Wooden Shjips

Mystery Jets first single off of their upcoming pop opus, Brace Yourself is “Dreaming of Another World”. A 70s dream pop tune with a chorus that you have to let wash over you. I love that Pinglewood.com calls Mystery Jets – “Posi-pop” because their music just makes me feel so good about the world.

“It’s time to live out the dreams in your head…”

Apparently Stoner Rock is cool again with acts like Tame Impala making some moves with their fuzzed out psycho-delic Aussie rock. Wooden Shjips steps in and trips out the Mystery Jets’ polished pop sound and takes the tune to another world.

Kavsrave – Quotes Nmbrs Podcast

This Kavsrave’s Quotes EP is a massive collection of tunes. BASS music at its finest. To coincide with the release of this 3 track EP, Kavsrave threw together this mix for NMBRS’ Podcast. Ginuwine, Ludacris into Hudson Mohawke – all in one amazing mix – fine by me. Be sure to check out the Quotes EP, “Baggage Handler and “PClart” are massive summer tunes that I have had on repeat for the past 2 weeks and probably will be for the rest of the summer.

BURNS – So Many Nights

BURNS somehow turns a wah-guitar lead line into a dancefloor banger. Loved this tune from the first time I heard it on DJ Mehdi’s Xmas Mix.

Midnight Juggernauts x KIM + US Tour Dates

I might as well turn my blog into “Asian Dan Loves Australian Music” Blog. With “The Crystal Axis” almost upon us, 5.28.2010 be exact – the Juggernaut trio has provided us with some great remixes. One by KIM of The Presets, a dark house jam that oozes with Oceania pride. A dark psycho-delic spiral into the dancefloor vortex, just give in and dance. Be on the lookout for the Holy Trinity of remixes of “Vital Signs” by each member of the band, Vin, Andy, and Daniel, a sort of alternate ending as told by each member.

Check out the music video for “Vital Signs” – here.

Asian Dan Presents Nick Catchdubs “Pink Lemonade” Mix + Q&A

Nick Catchdubs has made his rounds in the blogosphere and in the IRL music scene. From co-founding the one and only, Fool’s Gold Records to throwing the famed Flashing Lights party in NYC and everything in between, he is a man of many musical hats. Nick was kind enough to throw together this mix of some his favorite tunes at the moment as well as answering a few questions about his and Fool’s Gold Records musical mission. So sit back and enjoy Nick Catchdubs’ “Pink Lemonade” Mix (Ha! I just got it.).

Asian Dan Q&A: Nick Catchdubs

1. Who is Nick Catchdubs and what is that you do? Why do you do what you do?

I guess the simple answer is that I am a DJ, musician and record label co-owner. I have worn a lot of other hats (designer, editor, writer) but not so much these days because I devote all my free time to the label and my own music. I have been DJing professionally for the past 7 years and have been running Fool’s Gold with A-Trak for almost 3 of those. As far as WHY I do what I do… I’ve just been obsessed with music and art and media and pop culture ever since I was a very little kid, this didn’t happen by accident. I would still be making my own stuff and thinking about different ways to put it out into the world it even if it wasn’t a “career,” you know?

2. You are co-pilot of the famed Fool’s Gold Records, how has the trip been so far since you guys took off? What is Fool’s Gold Recs main mission?

It’s been fun and satisfying to launch artists’ careers, and help our friends’ music make an impact in the world at large. The mission has always been the same: to share the world that we are a part of creatively – the people around us, our friends and peers, new talents we discover – with official releases that could really stand the test of time. To put out records that could transcend blogs (no offense) and individual scenes and genres, to build up the brand so that it really stands for something unique and high quality. If I humbly say so myself…

Foals x Deadboy

Foals have written one of the most heart wrenching tunes of the year for me, “Spanish Sahara” – an introspective self-reflective piece that penetrates the mind and soul. Epic to say the least. UK 2-Step-ineer, Deadboy comes in and transforms the sparse tune into a dark Detroit dancefloor friendly tune, classic 909 drum samples and a slinky bassline that screams to the Detroit Dance gods. Be sure to check out the massive Deadboy tune, “If U Want Me” – fantastic sample, drum pattern and bassline.
