Justice is still on their pursuit of becoming ELO circa “Time” and The Buggles circa “The Age of Plastic” with the title single “Audio, Video Disco”. At first listen the track did not do anything for me but paired with the visual of music video via So-Me their vision they are trying to get across becomes clearer as they are just trying to be a 70s Prog Rock band. Love they use a CP-80 and a Mellotron in the music video, attention to detail is everything. I will always be a sucker for behind the scenes Powerpop montage videos and Rock and Roll cliches.
‘Welcome to the Pleasure Principle – an imaginary world where The Dream, Morris Day and Alexander O’Neal headline illegal raves and Timbaland never fell off.”
Hudson Mohawke time travels back to the RnB heyday of the 90s to alter the future of what we know as the electronic dance and RnB world. HudMo’s “Pleasure Principle” EP consists of unofficial remixes of Janet Jackson, Gucci Mane, Aaliyah, Jodeci, and Keri Hilson that blur and mutate the very foundations of RnB music. This first EP via Pleasure Principle is out on limited edition 12″
George FitzGerald returns with a deep track entitled “Hearts”. Everything good about UK dance music is thrown into this tune, deep bass, syncopated drum patterns, soulful RnB vocals, all glued together by an introspective chord progression. Get ready to get deep on the dancefloor.
CANT is the baby of Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor. It is a Terrible Records Family affair as George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow helps out on the album and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes plays in the live rendition of CANT. “Dreams Come True” is out 9.13.2011 on Terrible Records/Warp Records. It is a collection of tunes that are a totally different and refreshing listen compared to the verbose and intricate music of Grizzly Bear. The music feels like if Vincent Gallo’s music was remixed by his Warp Records label mates. Once again Warp Records wins me over. This album will be in heavy rotation this Fall for me #AutumnalTones
Listen to “Believe” a slowburner of a tune full of dirty bass and “Answer” with its swarming dark R’n’B vibes.
Rustie is going to flip the entire electronic music scene on its head with his album “Glass Sword”. It is pure hypersonic bliss that is set to shoot all of our minds and feet into hyperdrive. Listen to the lightspeed boogie track that is “All Nite” off of “Glass Sword” which is out on Warp Records, 10.11.2011
Ah 2 hours of Jamie xx digging deep into his musical roots and influences, all in hopes of us dancing just a little bit. He throws in a fair amount of deep House tracks and some serious disco. Take note of a little teaser of his upcoming remix of Radiohead’s “Bloom” at the very end. Enjoy!
