Jamaica x Alvin Risk

Dear Interwebs,

Do you know what happens when the blogosphere explodes into the “real world” and shit gets “real”? This remix is what happens. I met the talented Alvin Risk back in October after playing with the Jamaica gang at Webster Hall where I introduced him to the guys who said they would love the Alvin Risk remix touch on their next single “Jericho” – fast forward to today, here is the final product. It is a dancefloor revision of a straight-forward pop rock song that will make you dance quite hard and sing along at the same time. I especially love how he turned the intro into an epic bridge.

Pick up the entire Jericho EP which also features a remix from the one and only Todd Edwards.

Spank Rock x Todd Edwards

I return from the real world to the blogosphere with this gem from the one and only Todd Edwards. It was al ovely surprise to see Todd this past Friday in the crowd at Jamaica’s show at Webster Hall in NYC especially with such kind words, it was definitely a reverse bizarro world blogosphere/IRL experience. Todd strikes back with an amazing remix of my favorite Spank Rock songs, “What It Look Like”, a tune that is included in the massive Ninja Tune XX Box set. He mixes it up by throwing in a different drum pattern, rather than his signature 2-step garage pattern which really gives an great vibe to the track.

Asian Dan Presents Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd: Lil’ Louis “Club Lonely”

Sponsored by Scion

Here is the 2nd installment in ” Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd” by the one and only Todd Edwards. This week it is a track by the Chicago-House DJ/Producer pioneer, Lil’ Louis.

[audio:http://diestruktur.com/asianmandan/music/Todd%20Edwards/lil%20louis%20-Club%20Lonely.mp3]
Lil’ Louis – Club Lonely

Lil’ Louis is an extremely innovative producer. His track “French Kiss” was a very deep house track which slowly went down in tempo until the whole track came to a complete stop, while a woman simultaneously is moaning to a point of climax. It sounds even better than it reads. Even though that was a ground breaking track, it is his other brilliant work that inspired me.

The track is called “Club Lonely” It starts out with a deep bassline and synth chords. Then another layer of synth chords come in complimenting the first. Then, a saxaphone pattern comes in on top of that. And if that weren’t enough, a beautiful song on top of that. But the peak of this song is the chorus. The harmony that was created for the chorus is one that inspired me like no other. I definitely learned to layer music from this song. If you listen to my Sunshine Brothers work, you will here some of that influence, especially “Like A Fire”.

Asian Dan Presents Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd: Todd Terry “Slam Jam”

Sponsored by Scion

This post is the first of many weekly guest posts from the one and only Todd Edwards. He agreed to grace us with some of his House music wisdom with quintessential tracks of the canon of House music as well as tracks that heavily influenced and mean a lot to Todd himself. First off is a track by Todd Terry, “Slam Jam” that samples my fav Ramjam song “Black Betty”. Also Todd Edwards offers up his remix of the legendary Dusseldorf quartet, Kraftwerk’s “Numbers”.

“Todd Terry’s productions were the first that I studied in depth. He lead the way in sample-based house track productions from the late 80’s, and from then on was known as “Todd The God”. (That’s catchy) “Slam Jam” had Todd’s signature drums running under a simple bassline which sounded more like a sample of a sound than an actual keyboard synth, rawww!!! The track is filled with catchy samples running through it. It was always a great feeling when I stumbled across a record where Mr. Terry got his samples from. Todd’s beats and use of samples gave him his signature sound. When you put on a Todd Terry record, you know it’s Todd Terry. So, that’s what I set out to do. He inspired me to create a sound that would be reconginzable to anyone who played my tracks. I owe him a big thanks for being the first of my house music inspirations. Of course, he should know this by now because I told him every chance I saw him at the clubs in the 90’s.”

Talking Heads x Todd Edwards

Todd just sent me over his remix of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House”, a track he debuted on his FACT mix he made back in January. For all of you in the UK who were waiting to see Todd last night sorry that didn’t happen, apparently Volcanos hate good music. Word on the street is that there are no flights from London to America until May 1. Twenty Twelve is now upon us so instead of freaking out just download this great remix and dance. Also be on the look out for a new 90 minute Todd Edwards Scion A/V mix coming soon!

Some words via Todd’s interview and mix for FACT Mix from back in January.

“Growing up I loved ‘Burning Down The House‘. When I hear it, it reminds me of my childhood. Over the last year or so, I’ve been envisioning songs that I could “Todd-i-fy. ” I could hear ‘Burning Down The House’ as a club track. I feel good about the results.”

Scion A/V Remix: Todd Edwards “I Might Be”

A highly anticipated release by the legendary Todd Edwards. I had the privilege to meet Todd and he is one of the most humble and down to earth producers/DJs around. He let me hear these tracks and wow – I cannot wait for you all to hear them. 2010 is the year of Todd. May the king of House return to his throne. With remixes by Joy Orbison, MJ Cole, Feadz, and My Dear Disco – how can you go wrong? Out 5.25.2010 – More info at scionav.com

And as Busy P once said about Todd’s music – “I keep telling my friends I can hear angels singing, do you?” Oh, I do. I do.

KINGDOM

Kingdom is leading Fool’s Gold’s foray into the weirder, less banger, experimental side of electronic/dance. I have been listening and loving Kingdom’s remixes of Kid Sister and Marcus Price & Carli for the past month. I am a big fan of his nod to classic house, 2-Step, garage and just straight up bass. And what better way of paying homage than by getting Todd Edwards to remix your track. Check out the original version of “Mindreader” below and give the Fabric mix a listen to checkout the various genres of the darker side of electronic that Kingdom straddles between.

Jose James x Joy Orbison

Once again I will state that I love Joy Orbison and what he is doing for electronic music. It is a refreshing sound that is cleansing our burnt out/bloghaus banger palette. There is a a hint of the crazy dubstep everyone is raving about but in a very tasteful way. My favorite element of Joy Orbison’s productions is his nod to classic UK Garage and the greats such as Todd Edwards, especially what he does with vocals. Joy is the master of subtly – pulling from all the best parts of dubstep, Garage, 2-Step while creating his own version of warm and soulful electronic loveliness.
