Asian Dan Interview: Neon Coyote
1. Who is Neon Coyote?
Will: John, Noel aka Chico Love, and I. Three dudes born and raised on
the east coast. We started making music together last year, just for
shits and giggles.
2. What are your top 3 songs that make you dance?
Will: Fred Falke – 8:08 pm at the beach. Daft Punk – High Life. John
Dahlback- July First.
John: Surkin – White Knight Two, Daft Punk – One More Time, Congorock – Exodus
Chico – Louis La Roché – On The Floor, Best Fwends –
M.Y.S.E.L.F.(XXXchange Remix), Mylo – Otto’s Journey
3. What is your favorite remix ever?
Will:I have no idea where to begin thinking about a solid answer. My
favorite remixes right now are Bloody Beetroots vs. Wu Tang, Aeroplane
vs. Cut Copy, Fred Falke and Lifelike vs. anything, Fake Blood vs.
anything, Danger vs. SymbolOne, Anoraak Vs. College, and Shinichi
Osawa kills it.
John: Radiohead – Nude (HIPSTER RUNOFF Remix)
Chico – The Treaure Fingers remix of Snowden’s Anti-Anti was the
first remix I heard from this genre of music. I loved it then and I
could still listen to it now and have a good time.
4. What is your production style? What equipment do you use?
Will: Start with an idea, then try to make that kinda, and usually end
up with something completely different. Then figure out what I want to
do with the instrumental or whatever else I made. I use ableton,
logic, and a touch of micro korg.
John: Get stoned. I usually just roll it up in papers.
5. What is your DJ philosophy?
Will:Have fun and don’t take shit too seriously.
John: Make others dance as you would like to be made dance.
Chico: The Cool Kids said it best… Just keep them off the walls.
6. What are you listening to lately? What is the next big thing? What do
you think of the current electronic music scene?
Will:The heavy hitters on my shuffle are John Dahlback, Fred Falke,
Lifelike, Pacific!, Aeroplane, and Kopia as always. On that note I
think the next big things are Donovan, Damage, and The Franchising. As
for the music scene, S’all good as long as I keep getting sweet songs
to listen to all day.
John: I got that Machine’s Don’t Care 12 minute mix on repeat, they’re
definitely the next ‘big thing’. The current music scene is pretty
huge right now. There’s way too much shit, but there’s also way too
much good shit.
Chico: Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of rap, your Biggie’s,
Snoop, Outkast, Weezy, Clipse, Cool Kids, Juelz. But when I’m not
listening to rap it has to be Fake Blood or whatever I just
downloaded. The current electronic music scene is sounding real good
to me and the fact that the internet has a lot to do with it is cool.
The next big thing will be Damage, so good!
7. Future plans for Neon Coyote?
Will: We are doing a remix for Prairie Cartel’s single “Cracktown”. Then we are playing Whartscape in Baltimore on the 20th of this month and in August we are doing the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. Other than that we’re just gonna keep pluggin away and try to get some kind of a tour together.
John: Plus some side projects.
