Blank Spaces : Fly Your Flag
Blank Spaces latest track is a new wave ode to 50s Pop. It is a song with arpeggiated guitar drenched in tremolo over a Motown-esque bassline.

Sneaky Radiohead, releasing their album a day before it was supposed to be released. Too bad it wasn’t for free đ
Thom Yorke channels his Ian Curtis in the video for “Lotus Flower” which is an awkwardly naive yet genuine capturing of Thom’s Muppet like seizuring dance moves. Enjoy!

Stones Throw Records have proven themselves to have a knack for finding contemporary artists that sound like they were lost tapes from the 70s found in an attic. The Stepkids are yet another example of a band that have nailed this nostalgic yet tastefully done recreation of 70s psychedlic prog-pop rock. They craft songs that are full of Rhodes runs a la Mahavishnu Orchestra/Herbie Hancock and vocal harmonies that would make Steely Dan proud. Be sure to check them out live, dates here.

More proof that this is officially happening. I am too excited and what this means for the future of DFA1979. More music? More touring? More rock and or roll for the world?! Yes please.
Here is one my favorite DFA1979 tracks, a live version “Do It” extended with some impressive bass and drum syncopated riff rocking out. #2good

Death From Above 1979 – Do It (Live CBC Studio Session)
If you are lucky enough to be in London to see them at the Forum then you will also witness a few friends of mine opening for DFA1979, Jamaica.
Lovestep? Hmm don’t think I will get behind that name but I will get behind UK producer Two Inch Punch. A producer who describes himself as âa frustrated Soul / RnB singer, inspired heavily by Beatles short love-songs, Sam Cookeâs heartfelt melodies and Donny Hathawayâs incredible vocal tonesâ. I hear proper lo-fi sexy boogie, one part Dam-Funk, Hudson Mohawke, and Jai Paul with samples that are more echoes of 90s RnB hits than samples. Either way I am all about this POST-DUBSTEP/POST-CHILLWAVE/POST-GENREBLURRING MUSIC. Groove on bruva.
Sinden & SBTRKT return with “Seekwal” the sequel to that fantastic release “Midnight Marauders” which included one of my favorite tracks of last year “Kind of Familiar”. Seekwal out 2.21.2011

The 80s provided an interesting time for Prog rock as it began to dip into the world of synths and New Wave. This led to an interesting collaboration between Yes and The Buggles. Trevor Horn of The Buggles stepped in to vocal duties and Geoff Downes on synth/keys. Here is a track off the remastered version of the album that reminds me of Yellow Magic Orchestra. #2manysynths #2manyvocoder
