Kisses – People Can Do The Most Amazing Things

Kisses’ “The Heart of the Nightlife” has been a major soundtrack for the summer for me. A perfect way to spend 37 mins when I need to escape to a balearic disco pop world. “People Can Do The Most Amazing Things” is a perfect follow up to the sparkling pop sound of “Bermuda” this time with a darker vibe but still retaining that smooth vox that remind me of The Whitest Boy Alive.

Foals x Jono Ma

Jono Ma of Lost Valentinos re-vision Foals’ latest single “Miami” into a slow disco funk tune that slinks and slides across the dancefloor. A refreshing take on the original’s funky vibe especially how Yannis’ falsetto floats chunky beats.

collarbones

Collarbones is an Aussie electronic-experimental duo that understands how to sprinkle sunshine and good summer vibes through the use of of chopped up and sampled vocals that would make Dam-Funk proud. Also when you list the famous Greek mathe-musician Iannis Xenakis and Erykah Badu as influences on your myspace, you will definitely catch my attention.

“Beaman Park” is the second single off their upcoming album “Iconography”. It is a track that slowly filters in and “tunes-in” like your favorite 70s FM pop-funk song as it is slowly chopped and screwed into a a hypnotic summer groove laced with vocals that float over this visceral robo-funk. Be sure to download the “Beaman Park” EP, a great way to spend 13 and a half minutes of your life via their Bandcamp site for whatever price you name.

MGMT x Air

Air steps in to clean up and fix up the MGMT single “It’s Working” a tune off of their album “Congratulations” which definitely fell short for me. Air transforms the tune into a pulsating, Kraut-Pop tune especially the outro of the song with its galloping bassline and twinkling piano. Suicide would be proud as well.

Pink Stallone – Heavenly

Pink Stallone returns with another original track but this time straying from their disco vibe for a more R’n’B/90s House/Garage vibe. Short and simple but to the point. Be on a look out for a full length release from them this year featuring house veteran, Joey Washington.

Chromeo – Don’t Turn The Lights On

It seems that hanging out with Daryl Hall has rubbed off on the Chromeo boys. “Don’t Turn The Lights On” is the first single off of “Business Casual” which sounds like their version of “I Can’t Go For That” – which I feel is amazing. Every band should aspire to write tunes like Hall & Oates.

Flying Lotus x Mary Anne Hobbs x Sonar 2010

I witnessed Flying Lotus live twice opening for Atoms for Peace back in April and it was quite the mind-bending sonic assault. He tastefully de-constructs and mashes his tunes with unsuspecting songs by the likes of Mr. Oizo, Portishead, Burial and Radiohead. The one and only Mary Anne Hobbs invited FlyLo to her stage at Sonar 2010 which happened last week in Barcelona. For those of you not there to witness it here is a 21 min sample of Flying Lotus’ magic.

FYI he drops his remix of Mr. Oizo x Gaspard Auge’s “Rubber” in the middle of the set.
