Montreal’s own Jacques Greene unleashes a new EP entitled, “Ready”. It is a three track release that delves into Jacques’ mutated House, Techno, and RnB world. The title track is a creeping pulsating song that is propelled by a syncopated ascending synth line. “Prism” is a subdued and deeper track that creates a moody vibe with its subtle chord progression. The digital bonus third track is a 2-step inspired track with tinges of RnB vocals that echo throughout the track a la Burial.
Yet another Emil & Friends cover/remix that borders being better than the original track. This time Emil takes on Body Language’s RnB jammy jam, “You Can” which delves deeper into that slinky balearic RnB zone. D’Angelo watch out, there is a new set of abs in town.
“This original body language song is a sparkler, that is for sure. When I sit down and try to put a spin on a song that means a lot to me, it is either easy as pie or painstakingly difficult to accomplish. This one just bubbled up nice and quick. I wanted to take the song, slow it down, give it a hall and oates meets the xx meets junior boys meets bon iver meets aeroplane vibe. I listened to a lot of Kind of Blue- by miles davis, when mixing the track which got me in the mood to really remove all the arbitrary elements and stick with the low-fat simplistic approach. Simple defines sex in music, especially when you slow things down to bed-creaking tempos like this. Those who I define as sexy seem to bite their lower lip to this cover, which is all I wanted to accomplish. You Can, but you won’t. Well I kind of just did, and I’ll do it again. Props to the Body Language kids, get psyched for their new music.” – Emil
The french quartet, Club Cheval’s collaboration “Now U Realize” manifests itself in a the form of a mutant rave super creature in this quirky little music video. They definitely went for the “primal, heading for cosmic” vibe in this clip.
Prefuse 73 returns with one of my favorite of his monikers, Piano Overlord. “Aninha” is the first track off the release and features the usual cornucopia of Rhodes, Wurlizters and pianos over some tight grooves that Piano Overlord is know for. “Aninha Mission” comes out on Chocolate Industries next week, July 17.
The LOL Boys team up with Friends of Friends to release their latest EP, Changes which is out week on the 17th. Give the title track a listen which channels some 90s RnB vibes with moody swinged out jazz feel. Also take note of the midi trumpet solo that graces the entire tune. Listen to “Get Close To Me feat. Angelina Lucero” which delves into dancefloor deeper vibes.
Justice with the help of Partizan’s Canada channel their 70s vision to create a Sci-Fi apocalyptic Rollerball world that is part Mad Max, Flash Gordon, Tron and Speed Racer.
The hazy psychedelic rockers from down under, Tame Imapla return with their first tune from their sophomore album “Lonerism” entitled “Apocalypse Dreams”. This track is an epic sunny pop rock song that reminds me of some of the contemporary psycho-delic vibes such as Dungen v(Ta De Lugnt 4 eva) mixed with Late of the Pier’s “Blueberry”. This is a great tease of their new album and glad to see they are sticking to their guns and making well written and produced rock music.

Today is a day to be moved. It is a day to celebrate all that is grand and absurd in this crazy land called America. So from sea to shining sea – grab some beer, babes, and BBQ and enjoy this mix of classic Americana tunes.
