Music Video: Jamaica – I Think I Like U 2

Fantastic new video by Mr. SO-ME and Thomas Jumin. Love the entire concept. Also a nice little cameo by Mr. Zdar. Looking forward to the album especially what kind of production work Xavier de Rosnay has done. I am a big fan of the track on the latest Kitsune Masion 9, “Short and Entertaining”

Penguin Prison – The Worse It Gets

Penguin Prison is just so paunfully good at making pop music. “The Worse It Gets” is the A-side to his latest 7″ – I posted the B-Side “Something I’m Not”, which I would consider to be an A-Side since they are just both so amazing So this Double A-Side 7″ is a pop music assault with its lofty synths a la Talk Talk and Japan. Penguin Prison is going to be my Miike Snow of 2010. April 8 at Mercury Lounge, NYC Penguin Prison will be making full live band appearance, then May 8 at Brooklyn Bowl. I want a full album from this fellow now!

The Beatles x Sei A

This maybe be blasphemy to remix/cover The Beatles but somehow Glasgow’s Sei A makes it work and does it quite tastefully. His remixes of Tiga’s “Overtime” and Jori Hulkkonen are dark and deep techno tracks but for this Beatles cover he takes a simpler very Burial-esque route. Very hypnotic and it just turns up the melancholic nature of the original tune proving that The Beatles could touch every emotion on the emotional spectrum.

Kitsuné Maison 9 Minimix

Kitsuné is probably one of my favorite labels around today. Always quality stuff especially with their Maison Compilations, here is their 9th installment which I think is my favorite to date. New Tracks from Holy Ghost!, Jamaica (Produced by Dustin N’Guyen*Xavier De Rosnay*),Australia’s own Gypsy & The Cat, Penguin Prison, and Feldberg. Over the top quality pop is something you can always expect from Kitsuné.

Holy Fuck – Latin America

Definitely a throwback to Holy Fuck’s original vibe and sound. Not as epic and triumphant as “Lovely Allen” but a nice hypnotic/shoegazey feel towards the end. Can’t wait to see them live again. That is a spectacle that all should witness. Live music at its best. Their new album Latin is out 5.11.2010 on Young Turks/XL Reocordings.

koreless

Hazy, dreamy, melancholic, the sound of a lost night, a fleeting feeling – the feelings we once felt and knew. Exactly the refreshing electronic music I have been search of for the past few months.

Koreless is an 18 year old producer from Glasgow, home of such new and refreshing acts as Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Koreless channels a very simple, hypnotic and effective production style that reminds me of Floating Points and Four Tet with more of a 2-step dancefloor friendly vibe. Introspective bass music is what I need and Koreless is giving it to me. “Up Down Up Down” with its twinkling synth line and hypnotic drum patterns and “Maria” with a heavily manipulated female vocal part and simple piano chords all provide for a very transcendental/chilled out musical journey.

HEALTH x Azari & III

I unfortunately missed the Toronto weird-haus duo Azari & III when they made their NYC debut. But they return with this remix of HEALTH. A weird big sounding space house disco production. Nothing to say but it is big and weird and that I love it.

French Fries – Senta

Electrodrone turned me onto French Fries from Paris (Young Gunz). Who brings us a dancefloor killer of a track “Senta”. Big kick, tribal UK funky style drums mixed with a Baile Funk vibe, definitely something I can hear Crookers or Diplo dropping. This touches the part of my banger soul that I cannot resist. Buy the Arma EP on Beatport with remixes from the Night Slugs captain, Bok Bok and BeatauCue

MGMT – Flash Delirium

Finally MGMT, Blogonomics staple is back to fuel the Hypemachine. This track sounds like a a cat surfing on an 8-bit sega wave. Oh wait. A super 60s psychedelic pop surfer vibe. I definitely hear some early Pink Floyd circa Syd Barret. Definitely structurely the tune is about being more of a sonic journey than a track with hooks – proof on what you can do in a 4 min song. This is a return to their hippie/liberal arts New England roots.

This album I feel will have very little to do with Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, and Kids – instead will be about a complete journey within the dying medium, an album. A nostalgic experience when listening to a piece of music in one sitting was a privilege. I feel that MGMT is going to alienate their old fans and just win over a new fans since it will be so hard to replicate the greatness and success that was “Oracular Spectacular”.
