VILLA

Villa is a Belgian producer that is bring back the glorious sounds of cosmic, italo and balearic disco. Sequence basslines galore! I am loving Villa’s remix of Music Go Music – it is such a classic disco sounding song, there is a little nod to ABBA with that twinkling piano melody from “Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie”. Villa also has an upcoming remix for Ali Love’s “Smoke and Mirrors” – definitely something to look forward to. This is some heavy cosmic balearic beats – looking forward to more productions from Villa.

Music Go Music – Warm in the Shadow (Villa Remix)

This remix is a total tribute to Moroder with that “I Feel Love” bassline.

Plus Move – Just Me

Plus Move abandons their banger sound for a more electro-pop vibe, auto-tune included. They are developing a live act as well with live bass, synth, and vocals. “Just Me” has a very Chromeo pop vibe with a touch of Kanye and is sort of a comical/self-aware, mocking tune. Dope artwork.

Sébastien Tellier x Floating Points

London’s own Floating Points adds his lofty/jazz style to Tellier’s epic tune. I just recently discovered Floating Points after hearing his tune “Love Me Like This” on one of Joy Orbison’s mixes. Subtly is where this electronic scene is going and Floating Points and Joy Orbison are right on par with that.

Bonus:
I have been listening to this tune on constant repeat for the past two weeks, light n’ jazzy yet so simple and to the point 🙂

Floating Points – Love Me Like This (Nonsense Dub)

Check out this interview in Corduroy Magazine with Boys Noize here where he discusses the current state of affairs in the electronic/music world. Some wise words for all us music lovers and bloggers trying to live in this crazy blogosphere. “Why do we blog?” Let’s get through this blogsistential crisis together.

“We’ve gone the loudest and we’ve gone the most minimal. Everything’s been done, and it’s just important now to find the best of it and put it together again. I was always trying to not go with what is cool right now. And it’s getting harder and harder because the music is not happening in DJ and record shops only. Everyone knows the music. It’s a different time now.” – Boys Noize

If you blog it, they will come…

Jaga Jazzist “One-Armed Bandit”

Jaga Jazzist are an eclectic group of 9 Norwegian musicians that bring forth their own version of electro-jazz-funk. Their latest tune “One-Armed Bandit” showcases how nimble and versatile of musicians and songwriters they are, cramming in multiple movements that the band describes as “Wagner meets Fela Kuti.”

CFCF x Fleetwood Mac: Big Love

CFCF’s album Continental is out today featuring this disco house cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Big Love” off of 1987’s Tango in the Night – great reworking but “You Hear Colours” is still my fav track off the album.

“Drugs, dirty dancing, and pounding techno music.”

The metal maven Mixhell takes a stab at the Dewaele Brothers classic tune “Theme from Discoteque” a track they crafted under the moniker, Samantha Fu. Mixhell turns it into a very disco-rock sound track, almost sounds like a Soulwax Nite Version of the original. Lookout for Mixhell this December as he joins the Soulwaxmas tour.

Crystal Fighters x In Flagranti

In Flagranti turns this already strange tune into a weird italo/epic 80s track especially when that gnarly guitar part kicks in, reminds me of ZZ Top. Fantastic track.

Pink Stallone – Hydroplanes (Joey Washington Edit)

I love this dark House/Italo revival that Azari & III and Pink Stallone are leading. Pink Stallone enlists Joey Washington to add an authentic touch of House to their track “Hydroplanes” with its creeping sequenced bassline. Word on the street is that there is a Vietcong Disco x Pink Stallone coming soon, so be on the look out.

Miike Snow: MySpace Transmission Session

Graphic by Doin Music

MySpace is slowly redeeming themselves with these fantastic live sessions. They capture Miike Snow’s epic extended live sound. “Silvia” is a standout live track that really showcases how moving and epic of a band they are. This might be the album of the year for me – too much good music came out this year!

Asian Dan Q&A: CRYSTAL

Crystal is a very unlike addition to the Hooligan Disco sounds of Institubes records but they are a Japanese quartet that does a great job making a nod to the early electronic greats, Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Jean Michel-Jarre, Human League, to name a few. There is something very quirky yet sincere about their brand of electro pop.

Crystal – Don’t Mind (Demo)

Asian Dan Q&A: Crystal

1. Who is Crystal? How would you describe your music?
MARS, Keita Onishi, Shinya Sato, Ryota Miyake. Our music is Techno or Elepop.

2. What are some of your influences musical or otherwise?
We love Human League, Depeche Mode, Jean Michel Jarre, Der Plan etc.. YMO was a great band too. But we don’t know them well. We like the exaggerated seriousness of the arrangements of the songs of 80’s. But we like folksongs, psyche music, krautrock, calipso, mambo
