Jaga Jazzist “One-Armed Bandit”

Jaga Jazzist are an eclectic group of 9 Norwegian musicians that bring forth their own version of electro-jazz-funk. Their latest tune “One-Armed Bandit” showcases how nimble and versatile of musicians and songwriters they are, cramming in multiple movements that the band describes as “Wagner meets Fela Kuti.”

Checkout the video for “Animal Chin” – an older tune, but a huge favorite of mine.

Tahiti 80 & Yuksek

I just discovered Tahiti 80 and their French pop perfection in the vain of Phoenix, subtle electronics meets weaving pop melodies with solid soulful grooves.

Here is Tahiti 80’s biggest hit:
Tahiti 80 – Big Day
Here is a song that highlights Tahiti 80’s more soulful R&B side, my fav track of theirs.
Tahiti 80 – alloveragain
Tahiti 80 – Changes (Jaga Jazzist Remix)

ill remixes from the up and coming Yuksek.
Das Pop – Fool For Love (Yuksek Remix)
Chromeo – Bonafied Lovin’ (Yuksek Remix)

Gold Standard Laboratories Shutting Down

I guess October is the month for shutting down websites (New Oink) and closing up shop. GSL Records is citing Tony Wilson’s death (founder of Factory Records, Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio & The Happy Mondays) as a sign that record labels such as themselves can no longer exist in the world. GSL is co-owned by The Mars Volta founder, Omar Rodiguez-Lopez a big influence of GSL’s “no compromise, punk rock” aesthetic. Here are some my favorite tracks from some bands on GSL’s past and present roster:

The Jai-Alai Savant – Akebono

400 Blows – Mortar and Pestle

The Mars Volta – Cut That City

Rhythm of Black Lines – Zama

Jaga Jazzist – Animal Chin
