I stumbled upon this interesting article through, Music Thing on Timbaland and his prolific impact on music. Too bad his Chris Cornell collaboration sounds like Michael Bolton.
“When you hear a rhythm that is being played by an instrument you can’t identify but wish you owned, when you hear a song that refuses to make up its mind about its genre but compels you to move, or when you hear noises that you thought couldn’t find a comfortable place in a pop song, you are hearing Timbaland.”
I was never a fan of the original version of this track featuring Sebastien Grainger but this reworking/remix/part II is fantastic. It is so Timbaland. Such a big synth part and auto tune a la The Dream/T-Pain all over the Sebastien’s vox.
So I have been playing GTA IV way too much, I’ll probably soon need this, Xtensor. The game has a fantastic soundtrack, everything from Boys Noize, Steve Roach, Fela Kuti and Jean Michel Jarre, all amazing and out there tracks for a video game. This Rapture x Timbaland collab happened a few years ago but never made it onto their latest album but finally surfaced on the GTA IV soundtrack. The collab isn’t all it should be but I feel like that is what happens with every Timbaland collab, ie. Bjork and all those artists on Shock Value. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.
I feel this remix more than the original. Timbaland remixing himself, how pomo, if Justice can remix themselves then Timbaland can too. Timbaland gets rid of those annoying horns which makes the track a little darker.
This is an interesting remix to say the least. It sounds like Kanye just called Timbaland in for some help with his kick drum samples. This track had so much potential. I guess thats what happens when you try to mess with something that is already amazing. Sorry Kanye, I guess you can only do it once with Daft Punk but that was just luck.
Para One has quite a diverse sonic personality that rivals Aphex Twin. There is something so haunting and warm about his score for Naissance de Pieuvres, something very similar to Boards of Canada and early 70s movie synth soundtracks by Wendy Carlos and John Carpenter.
So we all know that Kanye owned 50 Cent (50 Cent Cancels Europe Tour). Graduation is amazing not just because Kanye sampled Steely Dan – Kid Charlemagne, Michael Jackson – P.Y.T. and had Jon Brion, Timbaland AND Daft Punk produce a track but because he sampled Can. He isn’t the first rapper to do so, Kurupt sampled Can’s most famous song “Vitamin C” on his track “Stalkin” but Kanye uses the hook so well on “Drunk and Hot Girls”.
