Tokyo’s own 80Kidz work their remix magic touch on the already pop perfect track, Cold Dust Girl by Hey Champ. 80Kidz turns the track into a Todd Edwards-esque track including cut up vocals and a smooth synth line that compliments the hook so well.

So for the past few weeks I have been rocking out to Hey Champ’s “Cold Dust Girl” on repeat, such catchy pop goodness. Lupe Fiasco has been raving about them since they are a hometown Chicago act and recently signed them to his label 1st and 15th, another Ivy League Indie Rock band signed by a hip hop superstar.
I then stumbled upon Hey Champ DJs’ Retrosexual> and Electrosexual mixes that they released sometime this time last year. I fell in love with one of their original tracks, “Sugar Daddy” which has this old school French Touch sound, something that Le Knight Club would produce. Great use of samples and filters.
Here is another track by the band that has that Midnight Juggernauts synth feel but with a Depeche Mode/Duran Duran pop touch.

Housse de Racket are a French pop rock duo in the vain of Phoenix meets the whole new Ivy Indie scene of Chester French (Harvard), Vampire Weekend (Columbia) & Hey Champ (Princeton). They are opening for a few Jamie Lidell dates in Europe. Gonzales remixed their single “Oh Yeah” turning it into a track that sounds like a soulful Daft Punk’s “Teachers”.
Hey Champ are a Chicago band that are buddies with France’s Scenario Rock. They are an 80s tinged, 70s songwriting sounding band that are now Lupe approved. You may also remember them for their fantastic remix of Scenario Rock’s “Both Gotta Move On”. Maybe Lupe will sign them like Pharrell signed Chester French. Check out their new track “Cold Dust Girl”, catchy, synth pop goodness 🙂
