Steve Aoki – Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles Review

Sorry for the delayed review of Steve Aoki’s album. But I finally got around to giving it a thorough listening and am quite surprised by this concept for an album/mixtape. This mixtape is the musical equivalent of name dropping in the hipster universe, MSTRKRFT, Spank Rock, Klaxons, Justice, Uffie, god damn. And the fact that all these artists were cool with the multifarious Aoki mixing and releasing a cd with their music goes to show that he is a cool monger. The fact that Aoki starts the mix off with Refused, New Noise shows that he knows what’s up and knows that Refused is the best hardcore band ever. Period. Overall Steve Aoki provides the a great mix for you to blast at your next party to show all your friends that you know what’s up.

Archigram, Detroit by the way of France.


I discovered this track on Crydamoure Presents Waves II, a compilation on Crydamoure, Guy-Manuel Homem-Christo’s fantastic record label that should release more music now. This track Doggystyle is actually a cover of Iggy Pop’s I Wanna Be Your Dog. It is interesting to see this reworking of a classic Detroit rock tune in the style of some hard hitting Detroit techno by the way of France.

Clark – Turning Dragon – 1.28.08


Clark is releasing a new album tomorrow in the UK on Warp Records entitled Turning Dragon. I am looking forward to this album big time after getting hold of his last release, Throttle Promoter EP. Clark is one of the most refreshing sounding artists on Warp, he has a very classic UK electronic sound but turned up to 11. From what I heard so far the album very different than Body Riddle, a favorite of mine.

Justice x H&M


You all know this kooky French duo for their heavy hitting dance tracks but did you know that theses gentlemen use to be graphic designers. Here is their major design debut for H&M, quite an interesting mashup. What do you think? It is straight up one of Gaspard’s outfits. I think they only agreed to do this cause Timbaland was on board this project.
