Erol Alkan Presents Disco 3000
Special 80 minute mix of spaced out disco, bubbling synthesis and balearic gems. A tribute to the days of tape edits and letting a single track play for ages…Made on 2 turntables with the aid of a 1970’s Cat Octave synth and Korg Stage Echo.
Erol Alkan: “i’ve put together a 80 minute mix of some disco vibes which are lighting up my stratosphere. i began mixing it up just for my own selfish ipod needs during a day off i had at christmas and only recently got round to finishing due to album commitments. most of the tracks are re-edited in some form or over, and i splashed some moody synth drizzle over some of the beats. i got another hour of this mix sitting about, dunno, i maybe save it for another edition. would love to play club sets more like this, who knows, maybe i will… anyone wanna do a party?”
Erol Alkan Interviews the Mystery Jets
Erol recently caught up with bassist Kai Fish to discuss the making of the Mystery Jets acclaimed album âTwenty Oneâ on the eve of their next single release âTwo Doors Downâ. As a extra special bonus, you can download the original home demo of album opener âHide Awayâ recorded way back in March 2007.
Erol: Kai! What happened? Itâs been a long journeyâŚ
Kai: E! It has certainly been a long journey, and Iâve a sneaky feeling weâre not even half way there⌠How long did it take us to record? A year? I canât believe it, it feels like barely a month ago we set foot in Konk for the first of many sessions. Itâs definitely been a roller coaster, more nemesis in Alton towers than a stroll through an English park⌠I donât think we could have done it any other way though, do you?
Erol: I agree. Being a second album, thereâs a lot to consider, and I feel itâs a time where you really need to explore your own music, and edit yourself much harder, and it takes time. Rushing a second album is usually the death knell for many bands. We went through almost 10 studios, 5 engineers; we lost âYoung Loveâ due to a hard drive failure and had to rebuild it from fragments of audio..
Kai: Who would have thought⌠although listening back to the album now I think it feels very together, I certainly doesnât sound like the journey it took to get there. I think it was maybe the way the songs were in such various degrees of completion when we went in to record them, that made the process such an epic one. Something to remember for next time!

Kindness : House EP
Kindness released their “House EP” this week featuring some fantastic edits and remixes by Zdar and Erol Alkan. Erol transforms the under 2 min “Gee Up” into a 7 min epic disco funk jam, so you don’t have to keep this catchy tune on repeat in you iTunes. Erol Alkan throws in some serious Nile Rodger’s Chic style super clean rhythm guitar that is ready for the dancefloor. Zdar’s dub of “SEOD” is a deep and dark hypnotic house edit that just sucks you into the groove. The EP is out today on Female Energy.
Asian Dan Top Ten of 2011
It is that time of the year where we all round up our favorite #mp3s of the year and sum up the year of 2011 in Music. Making these lists are difficult since so much great music came out in 2011, but here are the tracks and albums that stuck with me in 2011.
I will say hands down that Metronomy’s “The English Riviera” is my favorite album of the year, an album that proved they are amazing songwriters and that they put on a great live show. Rustie destroyed 2011 with “Glass Swords” which shows that he is so FUTURE. The Stepkids, Blood Orange and the odd men out, About Group show that honest songwriting and impeccable musicianship still shines through all the hype and buzz of the modern age. I could not stop listening to Blawan “Getting Me Down”, Jim-E Stack “Lemme”, Jamie xx “Far Nearer”, and everything Julio Bashmore produced this year #seriousvibes. Cheers 2011 and here’s to 2012 and all the great music to come.
