NOLA’s own Jim-E Stack is Shuttle’s partner in crime down south and is giving away a new track of his entitled “Lemme”. A soulful syncopated bass tune set to rattle the dancefloors with its massive kick and RnB sample.
R&S Records has gone through a gorgeous journey through the electronic music world. From releasing such classics such as Human Resources “Dominator” to CJ Bolland “Camargue” to Aphex Twin “Digeridoo” they have had everyone on their imprint. Just in the past year R&S has come back to life with acts like James Blake, Blawan and Cloud Boat, all adding a very contemplative and nostalgic element to their label. Vondelpark are another mysterious UK act that follows suit in Cloud Boat and James Blake’s emotional take on the “post-dubstep” genre. “Camels” is a beautiful, introspective piece that swims in reverb drenched guitar and vocals. Their ‘NYC Things And NYC Bags’ EP is to be released through R&S on July 18th.
R&S Records’ own Blawan mutates Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down” from 1994 into a demented bass drenched track ready for the dancefloor. What an amazing use of this 90s sample. Hypnotic House.

Carte Blanche’s “White Man on the Moon” EP is out now and is yet a continuation of their journey into HOUSE. In honor of the release here is track that didn’t make the EP (probably due to sample clearance issues), “The Molecules” – a tune that samples Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” monologue. Just imagine this track as a hymn for the Church of HOUSE.
Hudson Mohawke is back with some grimey/hood beats by way of Glasgow. He is a mutated bastard child of R&B and bizarre club music and this time he is bringing it even harder. His new EP, “Satin Panther” will be out August 1 on Warp Records. It is only a matter of time before Hudmo is producing tracks for Beyonce. FYI I still think Hudson Mohawke “Fuse” & “Rising 5” are two of the best tracks produced in the last few years.
“Into The Valley” was a peak into what the Classixx boys have been working on – a disco summer jam that is perfect poolside. Julio Bashmore swoops in with a remix that certifies this track as a sunny/summer jam.
I had the pleasure of catching Battles live a few weeks ago here in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge – a very intimate show that was NYC first introduction to their newly trio-ed band. They are a band that always sought to prove that man and machine can co-exist to create some intricate yet visceral music, this time it is was more man vs. machine. Ian Williams was no longer looping his own guitar lines as much but instead triggering them via a new Ableton rig that they incorporated into the live setup. Overall the energy of Battles live has been amplified as you can tell how much more each member has on their plates as they perform their musical acrobatics onstage.
The one and only La Blogoteque had a rare opportunity to capture Battles’ live energy in an unlikely setting – Paris’ City Hall, Hotel de Ville. Quite a juxtaposition of sites and sounds as Battles are architects of such futuristic music.
Thundercat is the man behind the massive bass playing on Flying Lotus’ “Cosmogramma” as well as being a session player that has sat in with Erykah Badu and Snoop. Flying Lotus has now taken him under his wing and produced his solo album coming out on Brainfeeder soon. “For Love I Come” is the first track we get to hear off the album – it is a space -jazz-soul cover of George Duke’s “For Love I Come” swimming in a sea of Fender Rhodes and slick bass-playing.

An amazing and classy mix of Roxy Music tunes put together by the classy gentlemen of Soulwax. I would not expect anything less from both parties. Hats off to Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music and the Dewaele Brothers. The only track missing from this mix is “Pyjamarama”. The music world today is lacking a band along the lines and caliber of Roxy Music – who will step up and fill this void?
