I don’t know much about
patten just that @electrodrone sent me over some of his stuff and that I like its warm vibes. Somewhere between Lone, Gold Panda with a touch of Tangerine Dream is where patten’s music exists with his hazy and warm production style. “Fire dream” is swarming with fuzzed out synths that engulf you while a hypnotic bassline is propelled by dirty articulate hi-hats in a 2-step drum pattern. patten’s full length album, “GLAQJO XAACSSO” is out now on No Pain In Pop.
This is new Justice album is quite promising. All I keep hearing is Queen “Flash Gordon”, later ELO mixed with Dire Straits produced by Yellow Magic Orchestra which is something I totally am fine with. I am glad that someone like Justice are being the ambassadors of this classic sound. Now I am off to listen to Dire Straits “Sultans of Swing”.
Fort Lean are one of the very few bands that are amazing songwriters, musicians, performers and all around good people. We, Emil & Friends had the pleasure of sharing a bill with them a few weeks ago and I must say they put on quite a rock show. I hope to play with them in the near future. Till then I suggest to you all to try to catch them live sometime during CMJ. Here is a music video directed by a “Friend” that lays down the beats for Emil who is coincidently a fantastic director, Alex Russek. Enjoy!
Chairlift’s latest tunes have been throughly impressing me. First with the slinky pop vibe of the absurdly titled “Amanaemonesia” and Caroline Polachek’s talent to turn that word into a hook while dancing around in a spandex onesie. Now with the track “Peculiar Paradise” the Chairlift duo is venturing into some serious late 80s/early 90s territory. I love the synth sounds and how the big chorus just comes in after the very slinky verse.
Kindness is Adam Bainbridge from the UK who has teamed up with the one and only Philippe Zdar on his latest track “Cyan” off his forthcoming album, out next year. It is a slinky disco track in the vain of the disco punk sounds of NYC that ruled the early aughts. I am very curious to what this full length album shall sound like.
A-Trak digs deep with this remix of The Rapture’s “How Deep is Your Love?”. He digs even deeper with this dub version that was championed by the great DJ Mehdi.
RIP Mehdi <3 Forever
"I did this remix over the summer, and when I was close to finishing it I played it to my friend, the irreplaceable DJ Mehdi. We often played each other our productions for feedback. As it turns out he and Riton were visiting New York so they stopped by my apartment. I was working on the main version of the remix, the vocal version. I knew I would make a few alternate edits during the mixdown. The funny thing was, Mehdi's favorite part was the ending! He and Riton suggested that I have that part come in earlier. My reaction was: that would work well for the dub version. And sure enough, when I finished mixing it down I made a dub with their suggestion. When I sent it to Mehdi shortly after, he responded (as a joke) that I should call it "Dub For Mehdi". He included it in his "Tunisian Summer" mix. And then, as we all know, the unimaginable happened and we lost our dear friend. The least I can do now is name the edit after him. This one's for you, Memed." - A-Trak, September 28, 2011

When I first gave Emil & Friends’ debut album, “Lo & Behold” a first listen I was struck by the vast sounds and genres that Emil touches upon, while still adding his unique touch that makes him “Emil”. “Prescriptions” was a song that at first listen hit me by how epic yet very personal it sound and felt. The lyrics especially captured me the most by how honest and truthful they are.
I will let Emil’s description of the song speak for itself, Prescriptions will “pull the listener into a sleeping bag on the shingled roof of their best friend’s house, or place them wandering midsummer through a field so familiar that they are guided through the dark by memory instead of moonlight.”
“Lo & Behold” will be available to the world on October 11, 2011 thanks to Cantora Records. So be ready for this 11 song musical journey. Till then feel free to listen and download this cinematic and nostalgia driven song for free via spinner.com.

Ah! The French. I’ve met a few French people in my life and have listen to some of their music as well. Good stuff. Speaking of French music, here is Chateau Marmont. The French quartet are set to release their debut album featuring some of the finest of exploratory synth pop in 2011. While listening to “Receive And Follow” you will not help but ponder and question the meaning of Life as you are swarmed by twinkling synth and an indecipherable vocoder voice. When you think the song only has synthesizers to offer, you are heralded in by regal horns that announce the epic “future” at hand.
Be sure to check Chateau Marmont out on tour this October with Revolver as the 2 bands make their way across North America.
It was October 24, 2003 at Roseland Ballroom in NYC where I first witnessed this band opening for The Mars Volta who had the most enthusiastic cowbell player ever. Fast forward to the Summer of 2007 (The Bloghaus Summer of 69) at Coney Island, the cowbell strikes back – this time opening for Daft Punk, which brings us to 2011. The cowbell is still going strong, this time armed with 3 cowbells, The Rapture are back and stronger than ever. I had the pleasure of being invited to SPIN Magazine HQ to witness an intimate set from The Rapture as part of the SPINHouse music series. It was a short but super energetic set from the trio featuring all the hits. “How Deep Is Your Love?” sounded quite epic live and definitely a highlight, but to hear that classic tune “House of Jealous Lovers” brought me back. I will let these .gifs I made of the show speak for themselves, be prepared for excessive cowbell and guitar tapping.
The Rapture : Live @ SPINHouse, NYC – 9.20.2011 Setlist:
In The Grace of Your Love
Get Myself Into It
W.A.Y.U.H.
