Everyone’s favorite produced from NOLA, Jim-E Stack is back with a new mix in honor of his first release which is out today, January 16 entitled “Come Between” (Good Year Records). It surely does not disappoint especially with that massive track “Lemme” on the release. Here’s to good choons!
Machinedrum and Azealia Banks are quite a duo these days, making some serious futuristic R&B/Rap. “NEEDSUMLUV” is a track that clocks in at 2:30 mins and is the product of Azealia killing it over Machinedrum’s Aaliyah laced (RIP/Happy Birthday), “SXLND” which is out tomorrow on LuckyMe.
Bullion is set to release a new single “”Say Arr Ee” at the end of the month. He steps into a swirling world of sounds that are reminiscent of David Sylvian, Robert Fripp, Brian Eno & David Byrne work. Definitely a refreshing and interesting step for Bullion. Just let the sax solo wash over your body…
“Say Arr Ee / What Does She Know” is out on 30th January on R&S Records.
The aussie beat monger, Jonti returns to offer up a free album of some early demos and unreleased tracks. For you unfamiliar with Jonti, he was part of the group Danimals, an Australian band that did a track with Mark Ronson. Definitely quite a nice thing to add to a musical resume. Jonti is his solo project that showcases what happens when psychedlic pop songwriting intersects with a head bopping beat aesthetic. “Sine & Moon” remind me of the Bullion “Pet Sounds in the Key of Dee” album that came out a few years ago. I like to think that, Jonti is to Stones Throw Records as Bibio is to Warp Records.
“People liked the songs on the Sine And Moon podcast, so I wanted to get them out for free. So I turned it into an album with extra’s, new mixes and original Jeff Jank Artwork. I really love these songs and I hope you enjoy!” – Jonti
“Don’t listen to my album; listen to my message. Enter into vibration with my music. Let’s merge our dreams, together spreading this communal energy in an immense blue wave that will wash over the world– and truth will emerge.” – Sébastien Tellier
I had the pleasure of catching Jacques Renault DJ this past Friday in NYC at Le Bain with the legendary Todd Edwards. It was a night full of classic and amazing tunes from each these gentlemen. Right after Todd’s set Jacques Renault dropped this gem of a track, his edit of “Searching For Some Real Love” a massive tune that just caught everyones attention and took hold of the entire dancefloor.
King Krule’s EP has been on repeat for me as we entered into 2012. It is a collection of 5 tunes that clocks in under 13 minutes but showcases this youngin’s musical potential. He channels some serious Pete Dohtery and Joe Strummer vibes. This candid live performance of “Portrait in Black and Blue” shot by my favorite guys from SF, Yours Truly captures all the blues and heartbreak these youths from the UK have to offer.
PS The bassist is playing a Warwick bass which is the most uncool thing you can do but oh well they are young and don’t know better.
It is that time of the year where we all round up our favorite #mp3s of the year and sum up the year of 2011 in Music. Making these lists are difficult since so much great music came out in 2011, but here are the tracks and albums that stuck with me in 2011.
I will say hands down that Metronomy’s “The English Riviera” is my favorite album of the year, an album that proved they are amazing songwriters and that they put on a great live show. Rustie destroyed 2011 with “Glass Swords” which shows that he is so FUTURE. The Stepkids, Blood Orange and the odd men out, About Group show that honest songwriting and impeccable musicianship still shines through all the hype and buzz of the modern age. I could not stop listening to Blawan “Getting Me Down”, Jim-E Stack “Lemme”, Jamie xx “Far Nearer”, and everything Julio Bashmore produced this year #seriousvibes. Cheers 2011 and here’s to 2012 and all the great music to come.
The one and only Guillermo S. Herren aka Prefuse 73 hooked the blog up with his favorite sounds of 2011. He couldn’t keep it down to 10 cause he is a punk so enjoy.

In no order but numbered _ organization represents = cleanliness…
1.”O.P.N.”_ Replica” : This is a perfect example of making a great ‘follow up’ record to a record that was already good.. Flipped the production up, abandoned previous t.m.s and succeeded… Muy ‘fucking’ Bien!!!! = I listen to it every day…<3 [Read more]
