Blood Orange : Chamakay

Dev Hynes unveils his first single from his sophomore Blood Orange LP entitled “Chamakay”, a hyper-stylized and in depth look into moody vibes. Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek lends her vocals to the emotional chorus. Adam Bainbridge aka Kindness lends his director’s eye to document Dev Hynes’ trip to Guyana.

Theophilus London & Blood Orange : Take It Off (Dim The Lights)

Theophilus London teams up with Blood Orange to take on Pharrell’s “Take it Off (Dim The Lights)” off of his solo album In My Mind. Some serious 90s RnB sexy jams vibes.

Blood Orange “Coastal Grooves” Stream + Yours Truly “Other People’s Poetry” Mixtape

Blood Orange is the latest incarnation of the musical chameleon that is Dev Hynes. The first impression I had of Blood Orange was via his track “Dinner” a very tasteful nod to 90s RnB but that was not a barometer of what his full-length “Coastal Grooves” would sound like. Instead “Coastal Grooves” is a homage to 90s Alternative rock with its heavily guitar-driven songs. I particularly love how Dev uses percussive and cyclical guitar riffs to create a hypnotic and apathetic 90s vibe. “Forget It” with its pieced together guitar solo, “S’Cooled” with its early Phoenix-wannabe-RnB groove and “The Complete Knock” with its galloping bassline are all highlight tracks off the LP.

Your Truly presents a mixtape compiled by Dev himself featuring some songs that seem to have influenced his latest sound, listen and download it over @ yourstru.ly

Blood Orange : Dinner

Blood Orange is the latest incarnation of Dev Hynes, the man behind Lightspeed Champion and the late leaders of nu-rave, Test Icicles. Is Dev a musical scene chameleon able to adapt to the quick paced musical world or is he just hopping on whatever musical bandwagon that comes along in the blogosphere? With Blood Orange Dev channels the 90s nostalgia movement that is creeping back into the pop culture psyche. I feel the production and songwriting is on point for what he is going for and therefore an honest musical venture. Either way it feels and sounds good – so that’s all that matters right?
