Crystal Fighters x In Flagranti

In Flagranti turns this already strange tune into a weird italo/epic 80s track especially when that gnarly guitar part kicks in, reminds me of ZZ Top. Fantastic track.

Pink Stallone – Hydroplanes (Joey Washington Edit)

I love this dark House/Italo revival that Azari & III and Pink Stallone are leading. Pink Stallone enlists Joey Washington to add an authentic touch of House to their track “Hydroplanes” with its creeping sequenced bassline. Word on the street is that there is a Vietcong Disco x Pink Stallone coming soon, so be on the look out.

Miike Snow: MySpace Transmission Session

Graphic by Doin Music

MySpace is slowly redeeming themselves with these fantastic live sessions. They capture Miike Snow’s epic extended live sound. “Silvia” is a standout live track that really showcases how moving and epic of a band they are. This might be the album of the year for me – too much good music came out this year!

Asian Dan Q&A: CRYSTAL

Crystal is a very unlike addition to the Hooligan Disco sounds of Institubes records but they are a Japanese quartet that does a great job making a nod to the early electronic greats, Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Jean Michel-Jarre, Human League, to name a few. There is something very quirky yet sincere about their brand of electro pop.

Crystal – Don’t Mind (Demo)

Asian Dan Q&A: Crystal

1. Who is Crystal? How would you describe your music?
MARS, Keita Onishi, Shinya Sato, Ryota Miyake. Our music is Techno or Elepop.

2. What are some of your influences musical or otherwise?
We love Human League, Depeche Mode, Jean Michel Jarre, Der Plan etc.. YMO was a great band too. But we don’t know them well. We like the exaggerated seriousness of the arrangements of the songs of 80’s. But we like folksongs, psyche music, krautrock, calipso, mambo

Ellie Goulding: Under the Sheets 7″ + Remixes

Ellie Goulding has been making her rounds in the blogosphere and I finally getting around to giving her some Asian Dan Love. I am a big fan of her vulnerable/innocent quality of her voice paired up with some very familiar pop/electro productions. I feel she is doing a very good job following in the footsteps of her pop-lectro counterparts, Little Boots, La Roux & Florence + The Machine. Her Under the Sheets 7″ is out on Neon Gold Records today with some fantastic remixes by Big Monster and Pariah. The Big Monster turns Ellie’s tune into a triumphant declaration a la some early 90s Madonna while the Pariah remix highlights the loneliness theme of the tune by adding this chilled out, dubstep vibe. Also check out the original version of the tune below.

Bibio x Lone

2009 is quickly coming to a close and I have been thinking lately a lot about how many great albums came out this year, from Miike Snow, Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, and Tiga. But I think Bibio’s. “Ambivalence Avenue” is making its way up to the number 1 spot for me. I cannot get enough of his whole vibe and aesthetic – it is just gorgeous and perfect pop tunes. If anyone pioneered this whole “chill-wave” genre it is Bibio.

Lone takes on Bibio’s “All the Flowers” a minute long tune that I feel is pop perfection – check out how Lone just adds a simple beat and brings a totally new vibe to the tune.

Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok

I remember hearing this tune as an opener for one of Erol Alkan’s Parklife sets that I downloaded a few weeks ago and I was blown away. I then heard it again on Busy P’s Essential mix and found out who this fantastic producer from Hamburg is. Boris Dlugosch has been around for quite a while and has even remixed Daft Punk’s “Digital Love” for their 2001 Daft Club internet releases. “Bangkok” is now out on Erol’s Phantasy Sounds, purchase it in its full 320 kbps glory at Beatport.

Also check out this fantastic interview with Erol at Loudandquiet.com. Erol is just a mad scientist genius living in his own world. I respect him so much for doing whatever the fuck he wants. I’m glad he understands this crazy bloghaus/banger world we live in. I cannot wait for more productions from this man.

“The reason Chemical Brothers (and Daft Punk) have had the success they’ve had is through their subtlety, their detail – it’s not mindless. Not to dismiss the current scene, but there is stuff that has got a bit too hard and a bit too mindless – if we’re not careful we’re only a few steps from Hard House or stuff like that. Let’s bring some funk back, let’s not just bang our heads on walls!”– Erol Alkan
