Yeasayer : Silly Me
A fun and silly pop tune by the weirdo Yeasayer dudes.
“Longevity” is the 2nd track we have heard from Yeasayer off their upcoming album aside from “Henrietta”. “Longevity” is a slinky dark electronic pop song with a very catchy hooks. Lyrically, there are some serious self-help quotes and mantras that are very similar to the themes in “Ambling Alp”.
“Live in the moment, never count on longevity.”
This is the first of new music from Yesayer, a cerebral pop tune that washes over you with synths and a tight bass and drum groove. It may not be over the top pop single that “Ambling Alp” was but it does have an epic sweeping outro that calls out to this Henrietta. Good to see that Yeasayer checked off “write a song with a female name” from their musical to-do-list. I am intrigued to hear the rest of their new tunes.
I never understood the appeal of Yeasayer and just saw them as some Brooklyn, vanity music/hipster band. A little too weird in that hippie way for me. And then a friend suggested I check out Ambling Alp – a well crafted pop tune that I have been listening to on repeat since Twenty-Ten began. Their next single “O.N.E.” they are giving away for free on their website, yeasayer.net – it is a happy-go-lucky synth pop tune that is my 2nd fav on the album Odd Blood. I can no longer sip on my haterade and can only appreciate this undeniable pop.
