“Force Majeure” reveals what Gaspard Augé, 1/2 of Justice brings to their epic signature sound. The track highlights the ornate, 70s Prog, 80s training montage, 8bit video game start screen music side of Justice. It shows that Gaspard’s sensibility is all about bringing these pop culture references that he loves into any of the music he produces. “Escapades” is out June on Ed Banger.
Daniel Avery has been quite productive during this pandemic. “Endless Hours” is the first single off his new album “Together in Static” which will be out June 24 c/o Phantasy and Mute Records. It is a beautiful and heady track with expansive/ethereal synths that float over some raw drum production – you would expect nothing less from Mr. Avery.
It is always a good day when there is new music from Tirzah. “Send Me” leans into Mica Levi’s latest guitar driven production style as Tirzah floats and laments over a hypnotic guitar line that explodes at the end with her laptop grunge style distortion that dissolves into the void.
CFCF’s “memoryland” is already Album of the Year for me. It is a collection of songs that are undeniable and showcase what an artist can do when they truly create a something that only they can make. It is a feat to create an extremely cerebral and conceptual album adn yet still make it fun and keep it grounded as pop songs. Every element has been labored over and it truly shines. Bravo, CFCF.
A perfect union of two of my favorite bloghaus trailblazers. Erol with his signature style and sound along with LA Priest, who in my mind made an extremely underrated track “Engine” which was Phantasy Records first ever release.Truly a raw and fun remix.
Malibu’s “One Life” from 2019 is a perfect album. And now it gets the remix touch from some special talent. Somehow every track has become even more expansive and cinematic.
Leon Vynehall is preparing to release his second album “Rare, Forever”- out April 30 on Ninja Tune. “An Exhale” is an icy synth driven track that slices through the air into a massive climax that just dissolves into a spacey atmosphere.
Low Spirits is Fred MacPherson & Cavan Mccarthy’s spacey synth project. “Worlds Apart” feels like something David Byrne would’ve created late in his career and “Miscall to Prayer” is an expansive cinematic collage that takes you on a journey in under 5 minutes.
Point Hsu ventures down an experimental Mashup path with this collection of seven songs that you can download at your own leisure and price. You can only “find a Taiwanese pop classic like Stanley Huang’s “End of the Night” mixed with a track from experimental German artist Alva Noto” in this first Volume of Mashup’s.
