I wish I was in LA for this epic convergence of musical minds – Thom Yorke and Flea on one stage together – two musical geniuses that are responsible for making me fall in love with music. Thom’s new band featuring Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker (Beck/R.E.M.), and Mauro Refosco (David Byrne/The Lounge Lizards) took stage on 10.2.2009 for an intimate “rehearsal” show at Echoplex – Daft Punk was in attendance. If I was at this show I would be crying – Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Daft Punk in the same room=Heaven. From what I have seen via the interwebs on youtube, the band is extremely tight and Flea adds a dubby vibe that Jah Wobble would be proud of. Also, watching Flea and Thom dance is like watching a hobbit dance off. Check out some fantastic quality videos from this performance after the jump. I am so happy for Phoenix – after years of putting out amazing music they have finally received the recognition and respect they deserve. And now there is is proof by having all their contemporary musical peers remix / re-vision their music. Genius business model – that is genuine, sincere, and just a great way to showcase the depth of their music. Looking forward to the Two Doors Cinema Club, 25 Hours a Day, and Boombass remixes.

I have never been a fan of Animal Collective – interesting take on this epic journey of a tune. Animal Collective turns the song into a meditative, Indian sounding tune with Thomas Mars’ vocals looped over like a mantra over some tabla sounding percussion.

Torino’s own Scarlets new single will be out on APRIL77RECORDS on November 1st as a 7inch and on December 14th as digital download produced by Dubka. heck out “Boundaries” a very Cure-esque sounding track but with more of a jagged edge and punch – love the drum sound.

A new demo from Brighton’s Mirrors has surfaced on the interwebs. A synth laden pop tune that reminds me of Tears for Fears – makes you feel like life is moving in slow motion.

The XX cover Florence + the Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love” – turning the tune into a sexy and sedated tune. I especially enjoy what they did, chopping up Florence’s vocals. I am a huge fan of The XX’s new album and it is perfect for the autumn.

As we all wait for Hey Champ’s album, we can all enjoy some new remixes from them, including a remix of Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” which should be out soon and this remix of Chicago’s own lovely female electroduo, Moneypenny. It is a great hi-nrg, 132 bpm, italo-esque tune. I’m a sucker for seuqenced basslines.
