CFCF is proving to be my favorite artist of 2021 with all these new tracks he has been releasing. “memoryland” maybe contender for album of the year and I have only heard 3 songs from it. “Heaven” features Sarah Bonito of Kero Kero Bonito which really leans into the y2k pre-millennium malaise with its guitar work and introspective emo vocals – I am all for it.
CFCF returns with an announcement of “Memoryland” a full length LP of 17 tracks. “Life is Perfecto” is the first single, a track that dives deep into his concept and theme of “Night Bus” which he has explored in his mixtape series by the same name. This is a track that taps into the Y2K euphoria and paranoia, a hazy memory of a time that pales in comparison to all the worries of the world today. The track emerges out of a murky space with CFCF’s guitar work and production that always surprises me and then blossoms into a full on Cornelius sounding track. Embrace CFCF’s version of nostalgia and slip away into “Memoryland”.
“CFCF (aka Mike Silver) has been honing gentle revisions and updates on the outmoded luxuries of pop and new age music for years now. Now he returns with a ‘spiritual sequel’ to his much-loved 2015 ambient opus ’The Colours of Life’, refitted with an eye towards the bygone future: oxygen lounges, chill- out rooms, luminescent spas, and breakbeats. Told in 15 movements, ‘Liquid Colours’ is a 42-minute new age jungle odyssey, perfect for a journey into a dreamworld of pure consumerism.”
