Blood Orange is the latest incarnation of Dev Hynes, the man behind Lightspeed Champion and the late leaders of nu-rave, Test Icicles. Is Dev a musical scene chameleon able to adapt to the quick paced musical world or is he just hopping on whatever musical bandwagon that comes along in the blogosphere? With Blood Orange Dev channels the 90s nostalgia movement that is creeping back into the pop culture psyche. I feel the production and songwriting is on point for what he is going for and therefore an honest musical venture. Either way it feels and sounds good – so that’s all that matters right?
Today Holy Ghost! released their remix EP of their next single “Wait & See”. It is a collection of remixes that take this already dancefloor friendly track deeper into the House world with remixes by Richard X, Moby and Kris Menace. The CFCF remix does the opposite, taking the big hooks of “Wait & See” and submersing them into a beach friendly/Balearic Disco setting. #Poolvibes all around….

The HiFi Cartel have teamed up with the legendary R&S Records to bring the US James Blake’s first ever DJ set in NYC at Tammany Hall. Be there to witness James Blake drop some of his amazing “Harmonimix” Remixes – check out my two favs, his remix of Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson” and Quasimoto’s “Broad Factor”.
The Hey Champ trio have emerged once again with the “Anything At All” EP which is out May 10. It is a collection of three songs that are sure to impress as they show off a matured and confident sound with the single “Anything At All”. They teamed up with Eliot James, the producer responsible for Two Door Cinema Club and Bloc Party’s tight production.

James Pants has always been Stones Throw’s secret weapon, a weirdo talent amongst the gang of beat maestros. He crafts his own version of psychedelic electro pop that always intrigues. His latest self-titled album is no different but I feel has more of an emphasis on the Pop. “Clouds Over the Pacific” feels as if James is channeling some of the lofty pop vibes of Stereolab and Broadcast along side some hypnotic drum machine and a very-preset-pizzacato violin sound. Cload Boat are currently supporting the internet/post-dubstep golden boy, James Blake. Cloud Boat are a duo that are experimenting with this genre known as “post-dubstep”. They take Mount Kimbie’s live approach with guitars and James Blake’s RnB vocal manipulation mixed in with some of Bon Iver’s introspective crooning and acoustic guitar to create a very delicate and fresh take on this forever mutating genre. I was most surprised by this clip when that voice came out of that man – a heavily processed falsetto.
Hopefully Cloud Boat will supporting James Blake for his upcoming North American tour. Cloud Boat will be releasing music on R&S Records very soon. Till then listen to this clip of “Lions on the Beach”. Beautiful stuff.
Jai Paul is out of hiding and now armed with a fully compressed and bumping single/edit of his bloghaus hit, “BTSTU”. Jai is now backed by the epic XL Recordings who is providing reinforcements for his upcoming release, an EP or an LP? We will only have to wait and see. I may or may have not heard some other tracks that he is working on and “huge” is an understatement for what Jai Paul has up his sleeve. Also props to Jai Paul for still using a Myspace, lulz.
