Jam City has finally returned after a 5 years since his genre defining and massively inspiring sophomore album “Dream A Garden”. “Pillowland” takes everything he has learned from his foray into the pop production world and fuses them with his insanely big production he is known for from his “Classical Curve” days along with some much needed guitar shredding. His mixes and production style on the album should not work on paper but his brand of hyperpop, glam and soul is exactly thing we never knew we needed. I am on my 6th listen in the past 24 hours – so as you can tell I am a big fan 😉
Pal Joey is a lowkey NYC house legend that takes The Brothers Macklovitch’s deep 90s R&B cover “I Can Call You” even deeper into the depths of classic 90s House. Ride this one out…
“Fragmentation” is a reissue of the 1996 album by the trio Orphx, out now on Prurient’s label Hospital Productions. It is truly a relentless take on industrial, noise and black metal – still sounding modern with its remastering by Joshua Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv). “Sepsis” is a favorite track with its rolling and hypnotic train like percussion and drum work.
“Dietrofront” is a collaboration between the two Italian electronic musicians, Matteo Vallecelli and Alessandrio Cortini. A meditative and beautiful synth pop song that swells and sloshes in your mind. Angelo Badalamenti would approve of this song.
Floating Points is back to remind us what a fun club experience once felt like with his remix of Thundercat “Fair Chance”. Ty Dolla and Lil B’s voice float over a sunny synth part and fun 2-step drum part – one day we shall hear this in a club and any memory of 2020 shall be washed away…
Stockholm’s own Ishi Vu is back with a 90s rave tinged track with a post punk edge called “Isolated Incidents”. It is the first track from an upcoming release on Glum Trigger.
Gorgette is a band that channels the spirit of Stereolab, Broadcast and Chromatics into “Avenue Du Soleil” – an EP that will be a great soundtrack to a wine and cheese party on a space station.
The latest mystery release from Dean Blunt’s World Music label is from bar italia, a lofi raw indie EP that moves in a nonchalant yet focused way. The 4 tracks clock in under 6 mins but will make you want to put it right away.
