It is no mystery that Jamie xx won my heart over with his steel drums and syncopated drum patterns. “Far Nearer” was officially released this week on Numbers. Jamie xx joined the Numbers posse on Rinse.fm for this hour and 45 min mix that does not discriminate any genre. From old school disco into some deep house into a chopped and screwed “Far Nearer” mashed with “Footcrab” into a steel drum Drake and Wayne mash-up into Burial – this mix has it all. Tonight Jamie xx will grace NYC with his thoughtful and nostalgic DJ sets as they span from post-dubstep to classic 90s house. And of course his amazing calypso-step track, “Far Nearer”. A track that has been making its rounds in various DJs sets. I did not realize the track was an 8 min track that just washes over you, I could even have it go on for longer. 2011 the year of #steeldrums.

I cannot to wait to hear “Far Nearer” played on a proper sound system. Hopefully he will drop some Burial. See you there tonight!

Another fantastic re-visioning of the deep and dark, Gil Scott-Heron by beatmaster Jamie xx. The ending definitely shines as an uplifting House moment.

Be sure to check out this great mix by Jamie xx that he made for Benj B’s BBC Show. He throws in some new tracks from Koreless as well as his own solo productions. Can’t wait for more of his steel drum laced tracks.

Jamie xx is set to release a calypso infused single that would make James Blake, Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie and Burial proud. At first I thought the steel drums were kind of a novelty/cheesy thing to do on this track but after a few listens it is great. A perfect track to play at the end of a late night set. It is also quite exciting that this 12″ is coming out on Numbers Records.
